The RS-232 communication system is for the smallest of systems, preferably those with only one inverter. RS-232 is the communication option for linking one inverter directly to your computer, or Sunny Boy Control. This is also the most common communication protocol for communicating between any single Sunny Boy Control and your computer. Advantages: Very inexpensive option for directly linking one inverter to your PC. Serial port communication is open source and easy to use. Best if used with the Sunny Data V 1.7 software You can build your own cable using Cat-5 networking cable. See the instructions here. Special Considerations: This option can only be used to communicate between one inverter and a computer at a time. To communicate between multiple inverters, use either Powerline Carrier or RS 485. For RS 232 communication to work effectively, the PC and the inverter must be located within 50 Feet (15 meters) of one another.
